Balanced Salt Solutions
Balanced Salt Solutions (BSS) play a crucial role in maintaining the structural and physiological integrity of cells in vitro. These isotonic buffer systems are designed to keep cells within their physiological pH range, ensuring high viability during incubations. Primarily composed of inorganic salts and glucose, BSS maintains cellular osmotic balance, stabilizes pH, and provides essential nutrients. Pricella® offers a diverse range of balanced salt solutions, including PBS, DPBS, HBSS, EBSS, and more. Developed with precision by our R&D team and rigorously validated across nearly a thousand different cell types, our BSS products are available in various formulations and formats, ensuring consistent quality and reliability for your experimental needs.

EBSS and HBSS can both be used to maintain cell viability and metabolism during short-term culture outside the growth medium. It is important to note that due to differences in bicarbonate content, EBSS can be used in a 5% CO2 environment, while HBSS cannot, as it will rapidly acidify under these conditions. Pricella® offers EBSS and HBSS products with optional calcium, magnesium ions, and phenol red components.
